What we Ordered
Moscow Mule
I ordered a Moscow mule to enjoy with my meal, and it was one of the best Moscow mules I have ever tasted, even without the classic copper mug. The fresh ginger added a warm spice and paired well with the tangy lime juicy. Yum!
Amanitis Edesma – Wild Mushrooms
The Amanitis Edesma was a show-stopping start to our meal. Zakynthos has been known for their mushrooms and they were considered fine food for the Gods. This simple wild mushroom appetizer comes out with pizazz. White fog clouds surrounded the dish creating an ominous thrill and reveal to the wild mushrooms. The mushrooms lived up to the show. They were tender and filled with flavor from the red wine and thyme sauce.
Aphrodite’s Hedonism – Figs & Goat Cheese
One of the best plates of the night was the fig and goat cheese salad. Aphrodite was the goddess of pleasure, love, and affection, this stunning dish presented each characteristic. A large mushroom sat in the middle of the artfully plated dish. The roasted warm mushroom offered an earthy note and paired well with the sweet dates and tart goat cheese. Toasted walnuts decorated the plate and added a nutty crunch. Each element of this unique salad was well thought out and impeccably prepared.
The Oxen of the Sun – Beef Cheeks
Helios (The Oxen of the Sun) was known to have herds of cattle that were well protected. Anyone who set harm to his cattle would “get the wrath of the God”.
This well-plated dish was absolutely delicious with slow-cooked beef cheeks, roasted carrots, and celery root puree. The beef cheeks fell apart with my fork and melted in my mouth. They were the star of the dish. The roasted carrots were perfectly al dente and packed a punch of flavor. I loved the pairing of roasted carrots with the stewed meat and sauce, it reminded me of a Sunday dinner at grandma’s.
Persephone’s Abduction – Smoked Pork
Daughter of Zeus, Persephone is the queen of the underworld and takes on the characteristic of vegetation. She came out in the Spring and then retreated back after the harvest had passed. The plate was artfully plated to represent the colorful Spring season and the sprouting act Persephone is known for. The smoked pork dish was quite unique with sweet and savory pineapple and apple sauce. The pork was juicy and flavorful and paired well with the tangy unique chutney sauce.
